An 8in globe Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug from one of Doultons finest designers - Frances E Lee. This jug contrasts sharply with Lee's other work, in its bold and unapologetic simplicity.
The jug has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark, the date 1878, and the monogram of Francis E Lee. It is an unusual monogram, authenticated on p309 of Eyles and Irvine's The Doulton Lambeth Wares. The jug weighs 1428g.
The jug is in excellent condition, except for one matter. Many years ago the handle broke off. The handle has been refixed and supported by a metal loop that passes thro the rim of the jug to a domed end inside the rim. In view of the age and historic nature of the repair, we have left the defect unattended. There are no chips, crazing, cracks, significant scratches or restorations apart from the handle repair.
