A bold heavy Doulton Lambeth 11.5in vase, date 1885, with the same background of 'cracked ice' that Eliza used on her Siliconware vases. The pairs of Phoenixes repeat three times around the circumference. Animal subjects on Eliza Simmance's works are rare. This vase shows a variance from the normal Doulton output that is a testament to the creativity of Eliza Simmance.
The vase has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with the date 1885. It also has the incised monogram of Eliza Simmance and her number 219. The 6 Phoenixes are built up from beads in black, grey and white. The vase weighs 1750g.
The vase is in very good condition. Damage to the neck of the vase has been restored, and the restration is only perceptible under very close scrutiny. Close up photos will be sent on request.
