A 7" (17cm) Art Deco Royal Doulton Spill vase with a stylised apple design, by one of Doulton's finest ceramic artists - Maud Bowden.
The design of this vase was launched in 1912 as one of Doulton's 'New Style' vases (see p217 of Desmond Eyles' 'The Doulton Lambeth Wares'). For the period, the design was very avant-garde. Art Nouveau was in full swing and someone at Doultons came up with this!
The vase has the impressed Doulton mark with Crown and Lion, the series number 7899, and the incised monogram of Maud Bowden. Maud Bowden was successful, prolific and worked at Doultons for 34 years from 1903. This vase, like most of her work is meticulous, with no glaze overruns and missed patches.
The vase is in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration.
