An early Doulton Lambeth 3.25" (8cm) Mustard pot with silver plated lid and finial, and with incised foliate decoration, in excellent condition.
This early Doulton Lambeth Mustard Pot is dated 1881. It has the impressed Doulton Lambeth Mark, and also has the signatures of Ernest R Bishop. Alice G Smith and Clara Rymer.
The deep incised decoration is the mark of the most respected Doulton designers of the last quarter of the 19th century: the lesser ceramic artists tended to use applied mouldings.
The pot is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration. The lid is silver plated, and unusually for its age, the plating has not worn away anywhere. There are a few small spots on the plating resulting from corrosion, but none are bigger than 1mm diameter.
