A pair of magnificant early Doulton Lambeth 11" vases by one of the finest of Doultons designers, Frances E Lee. They are dated 1877, early in the career of Frances E Lee at Doultons.
These large vases show the quality of workmanship for which Frances E Lee is well known. The design, with applied stylised flowers, incised leaf patterns and strong colours shows the influence of George Tinworth. All the detail is incised with the greatest of care and the glazing is precise, with no overrun. These vases show the quality of early Doulton at its best.
The vases have the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark, with the monograms of Frances E Lee and Harriet E Hibbut, the date 1877, and Frances Lee's opus number 223.
One vase in in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks,crazing or restoration. The other is in a similar condition, but had hairlines cracks to the body of the vase. These have been eliminated by professional restoration.
