An elaborately decorated Doulton Lambeth 10" (25cm) three-footed bowl by two of the leading designer/artists of the late 19th century. It is in the traditional colours of the period, brown, cobalt blue and grey.
This early (1883) bowl is the result of the cooperation of two of Doulton Lambeth's finest designer/artists, Frances E Lee and Harriet E Hibbut. The incised designs are of the finest quality. A number of Frances Lee's works are illustrated in Desmond Eyles' The Doulton Lambeth Wares. The bowl has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark, the monograms of Frances Lee and Harriet Hibbut, and Frances Lee's opus number 469.
The bowl is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or restorations. There are some scratches on the inside of the bowl where flower pots have stood, and a small internal 'lump' is visible in photo No1. This is an original manufacturing defect.
