A pair of 7" (17.5cm) Doulton Lambeth vases dated 1884 with incised floral motifs by Clara S Barker. A number of Clara Barker's works are illustrated in Desmond Eyles' book, The Doulton Lambeth Wares.
These vases are by one of the early Doulton designers, Clara S Barker, assisted by someone who later was one of the most prolific and successful ceramic artists in the early 20th century, Jane Hurst. Clara Barker won a bronze medal at the International Health Exhibition in 1884, and was one of the signatories of the manuscript given to Henry Doulton in 1882 from the lady artists at Doultons.
The vases both have the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark, the date 1884, the opus number 812, and the incised monograms of both Clara S Barker and Jane Hurst.
The vases are in totally original condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, scratches, or restorations. One vase has some kiln grit attached next to the base.
