A delightful pair of early 20th century Royal Doulton vases with a pastoral scene with shepherd, sheep, birds, trees and hedges.
The design on this pair of vases is illustrated in Desmond Eyles' "The Doulton Lambeth Wares" on page 218, dating it to about 1910. The vases have the impressed Doulton Mark with crown and Lion, the design number 7557E and the signature of an artist 'CB'. Whereas pastoral scenes were common in the 19th century on 'one-off' vases by the leading designers, these vases represent an early example of their use on production items.
The vases are in perfect condition, with no cracks, chips, restoration or crazing.
