These 9.75" (24cm) vases are a beautifuly matched pair by two of Royal Doulton's leading artists. In deeply contrasting colours of marine blue and off-white they are eyecatching at any distance. The exciting shapes add to their spectacular impact.

These vases probably date from the late 1920s or early 1930s. The backstamp of Doulton Circle with Lion dates from about 1922, but the beaded style is more characteristic of the earlier years of the 20th century. Winnie Bowstead worked at Doultons for over 50 years, from 1896 to 1947. Less is known about Christine Abbott who is recorded as a Senior Assistant at Doultons, but her quality work speaks for itself.

Both vases are in totally original condition. They have no cracks, chips, restoration or crazing. One has a very small area of roughness around the base, which almost certainly came from loose material in the kiln.
