A tall - 32cm - elegant Royal Doulton stoneware vase of superb quality from the last decade of the 19th century with top quality tube-lined floral detail.
They don't come any better than this one! The tube-lining on this vase is of a quality normally associated with names such a Frank Butler and Mark Marshall. The vase has the monogram of Louisa Russell, and the Doulton Lambeth mark, with 'England' underneath, dating the vase to the period 1891-1902. The vase shows the transition from the heavier Victorian, almost sculptural, detail to the lighter detailing of the Art Nouveau period. It is the same with the colours: the heavy strong colours have given way to the softer paler colours of this vase.
The vase is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration, but the glaze has some fine crazing. The crazing is not noticable except under close examination.
