A fine pair of very early Doulton Lambeth vases with impasto decoration, by Elizabeth Atkins.
The vases have the impressed Doulton Lambeth circular mark, are signed 'EA9' and 'EA10', and are both dated 1879. Bearing in mind that the first ever decorative works by Doultons went to the Paris Exhibition in 1867, these vases are very early.
Both vases are in excellent order, with no cracks, chips, crazing or restoration. Being made of relatively soft paste, they do have a certain amount of wear on the impasto decoration which is noticeable in the photos.
