This ewer could well have been Elizabeth Sayers or Elizabeth Fisher, but it is not. It has the fine quality of those two designers, but was the output of someone who, sadly, did not stay long enough at Doultons to make his/her mark.
The 9.75in (24cm) ewer is signed by the designer “e.a.g.”, and dated 1879. It is also signed by an unknown assistant.
“e.a.g.” is a designer whose works occur on a regular basis. He/she is recorded as being a designer at Doultons for the short period from 1887-1888. He/she was obviously there for longer as this piece is dated 1879. “A very early work”! The ewer weighs 684g.
No defects, except for the somewhat darker colour around the shoulders of the vase caused by the heat of the kiln.
