Edith Lupton - an 8.5in (22cm) Doulton Lambeth Silicon ware vase - 709

This Doulton Lambeth vase deserves a prize for the precision of the hand decorated detail that covers it. Edith Lupton was one of the finest designers of this High Victorian style.

An 8.5in (22cm) vase signed by Edith Lupton, dated 1884, and numbered 709. It has the Doulton Lambeth Silicon ware impressed stamp. It also has an assistant’s mark which is probably that of Jane Hurst. The vase weighs 1023g.

A small area of one of the blue circles had to be over-painted as the coloured glaze was thin.
