Made in Victorian times, these two candlesticks show a remarkable influence of the Art Nouveau movement. Very elegant in shape and simple in the decoration, they represent a big change from the elaborate detail of the Victorian era. Regrettably, not “designer-signed” but a lovely and elegant example of the simple shapes that were made at the end of the Victorian era. A pair of 9in (22cm) Art Nouveau candlesticks signed by Marion Holbrook. They have the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark with the word ‘ENGLAND’ dating them to the period 1892-1902. The candlesticks weigh 1445g.
One candlestick was damaged in transit to us, but it has been professionally and invisibly restored. One candlestick has a line (approx. 4cm long) near the top where the glaze has not covered the clay.
