The design of this innovative vase appears to be random, but a careful study reveals that the apparently random colouring is repeated four times around the vase. For the normally reserved culture at Doultons, this type of design was ground breaking. Congratulations Vera!
The 5in (12.5cm) vase has the impressed Royal Doulton mark with lion and the series number 8868. It is signed not only by the designer, Vera Higgins, but also by her assistant Florrie Jones.
The vase is 100% free of all chips cracks and restoration. There is however one small ‘pin-prick’ in the glaze, and a small amount of very fine crazing around the base.
