Mark Marshall was probably the designer with the most creative variety in his work at Doultons. What a contrast this sweet little ewer is with the exuberant shapes and colours of much of Marshall’s work. The shape is simple, and the colours are restrained and limited.
The 7in (17.5cm) ewer, weighing 388g, has the printed Doulton Lambeth Carrara ware mark with the monogram of Mark V Marshall, and Marshall’s number ‘95’ incised underneath. There is also the incised monogram of an assistant – probably Jane Hurst.
