A classic Hannah Barlow rural scene of total tranquillity – three horses out in a paddock with a farmhouse faintly incised in the distance. Even though the horses have their ears pricked up, there is no suggestion of anything but peace.
The 9.5in (24cm) Royal Doulton jug has the Impressed Royal Doulton mark with crown and lion and the series number 6722. It is signed in monogram by Hannah Barlow and has her incised number 506. It is also signed in monogram by her assistant – Maud Bowden. The jug weighs 1127g.
No chips cracks or restoration. It is as it left the kiln! There is a very fine firing crack between the base of the handle and the jug.
