This sweet little Doulton Lambeth vase has a rare feature for a Doulton vase – human faces. The quality of Emily Stormer’s (or Harriet Hibbut’s) glazing is superb. The design is highly complex, but the accuracy of the glazing is amazingly precise: only the deep blue glaze of the neck shows any sign of any overrunning.
An 8.5in (21cm) vase with the Doulton Lambeth mark and the date 1881. The vase is signed in monogram and numbered by Emily Stormer. It is also signed in monogram by Emily Stormer’s assistant, Harriet Hibbut. The vase weighs 578g.
The vase is in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, restoration, or significant scratches. There is a small deposit of kiln grit on the shoulder of the vase.
