How many guessed that this was by Florence Barlow? It is neither pate-sur-pate, nor has it a bird on it. 18.5cm (7.5in) tall, it is a delicate Doulton Lambeth Silicon ware ewer, decorated in fine detail and highlighted with small blobs of gold. Made in 1885, it dates from the period when Florence Barlow was producing fewer incised works and more pate-sur-pate bird vases.
The ewer has the impressed ‘Doulton Silicon Lambeth’ mark with the date 1885. It is signed in monogram by Florence Barlow and has her number 831. The ewer weighs 426g.
The ewer is in totally mint condition. There is a small firing crease in the clay, just below the feather (see photos) which does not detract from the overall appearance.
