Few can match the fluency of design of this Doulton Lambeth ewer. 31cm (12.5in) tall it expresses the exuberance of its creator – Eliza Simmance. Dating from the last decade of the 19th century, for a tube-lined item by Eliza Simmance this ewer was almost innovative. Note the harmonious colours with small blue additions.
The ewer has the impressed ‘Doulton Lambeth England' stamp, dating it to 1892-1902, and a series number 4143. It is signed in monogram by Eliza Simmance and has her number 807. The ewer weighs 1006g.
The ewer had one minute chip to the rim, which has been professionally and invisibly restored. This is just discernible in the photos, taken before restoration. Apart from this, the ewer is in perfect and original condition.
