A magnificent statuesque 35cm (14in) Doulton Lambeth vase from the last decade of the 19th century, with an exuberance of both colour and design that is a contrast with the early work of Frank Butler.
The vase is 35cm (14in) tall and has the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark with the word ‘ENGLAND’ underneath, dating the vase to the period 1892-1902. It has the incised monograms of Frank Butler, and his assistant, Florrie Jones. It also has Frank Butler’s design number 370 incised under the base. The vase weighs 1908g.
The vase is in excellent condition. At one time, it was a lamp, but the entry hole for the cable has been filled and professionally restored. There is some discontinuity in the tube lining due to firing cracks, but this is only visible on close inspection, and does not detract from the strong visual impact of this beautifully flamboyant vase.
