A stylish Doulton Lambeth two-handled tankard by one of Doulton’s leading designers. Originally two-handled tankards were designed so that they could be passed round a table for all to drink from. Made in more formal Victorian times it seems likely that this one was intended to be ornamental rather than functional. It certainly is very ornamental.
The two-handled 16.5cm (6.5in) tankard has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with the date 1880 underneath. It has the incised monograms of Edith Lupton and Harriet Hibbut, and Edith Lupton’s design number 108. The rim of the tankard is brass. The tankard weighs 1279g.
The tankard is in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing restoration or significant scratches.
