It is not often that one sees a Doulton Lambeth bucket. Measuring 12.5cm to the rim, it could be used as an ice bucket, but it is probably more use nowadays as a deck tidy. Whatever its use, it is beautifully incised with the elaborate detail at which Elizabeth Sayers was so good.

The bucket has the Doulton Lambeth mark with the date 1877, the incised monogram of Elizabeth A Sayers with her design number 884, an 'FC' monogram, which could well be Fanny Clark, and SS for Susanna Sanderson. The bucket weighs 644g.

The bucket is in fine original condition. There are small defects to the glaze of the lower band of diagonals around the base. These appear to be glaze bubbles that burst during firing. The silver plate has worn off the rim around the top of the bucket exposing the brass on which the plate was deposited.
