A superb pair of 23cm (11in) Doulton Lambeth equestrian vases by the master of that art - Hannah B Barlow - both in mint condition. Pairs of Barlow vases may at times have more exotic animals, but they will not be better quality than these two. As frequently happened, Hannah Barlow was brilliantly assisted by Florence C Roberts, a skilled and experience designer in her own right.
The vases have the incised monograms and the design numbers (126 and 819 respectively) of both Hannah Barlow and Florence Roberts. They have the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark with the word 'England' underneath, dating the vases to the period from 1891-1902. The vases weigh approx 1300gr each.
The vases are in 100% mint condition - no chips, cracks, restoration, crazing or significant scratches. One has an area on the base rim about 2cm long where kiln grit has stuck to the glaze, and the other has two small pieces of kiln grit stuck to the shoulder of the vase.
