We do not know anything about ‘E.A.G.’, but we can see what he/she could do! The quality of this early Doulton Lambeth dish speaks for itself. The fact that the rim is solid silver attests to the respect for his/her work by his/her employers.
The dish measures 13cm (4.25in) diameter, and 4.75cm (nearly 2in) in height. It has the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark with the date 1877. It is signed in monogram by E*A*G*, and her assistant Harriet Hibbutt, and numbered 262.
The ceramic part of this item is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, restoration or significant scratches. The hall-marked silver component appears to have had some remedial work to the connection between the rim and one of the two handles. The dish weighs 242g.
