This 7.25in (18.5cm) Doulton Lambeth stoneware bowl tests the skill of the potter and decorator. A round bowl is relatively easy, but a hexagonal bowl... Frank Butler was a master of the art of making clay into different and difficult shapes. Just to complete the difficult task, he decorated the whole of the inside as well as the outside. No wonder he is considered to be one of the finest designers ever to work at Doultons. The bowl weighs 763g.
The bowl has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with the word ‘ENGLAND’ underneath, dating the bowl to the period from 1891-1902. It is signed in monogram by Frank Butler, (with his design number 583), and also by Rosina Brown and an unknown assistant ‘RHM’.
