These two lovely mint condition 10.5in (26cm) Doulton Lambeth vases were ahead of their time. At a time when the leading designers felt that it was their responsibility to cover the whole area of the vase with detailed designs, Louisa J Davis left sizeable areas as high-gloss grey or cobalt blue plain glaze.
The vases have the impressed Doulton Lambeth rosette and the date 1882. They are inscribed with Louisa Davies’s incised monogram and her design number 446. The vases also have the incised monogram of Louisa Davis’s assistant, Mary Aitken. The vases have a combined weight of 2018g.
