This exceptionally adventurous Doulton Lambeth 8.75in (22cm) vase combines the usual free flowing Butler patterns with a geometric pattern reminiscent of a roller coaster. It is a design not resembling Doulton’s normal output and is an example of the freethinking of Frank Butler.
The vase has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark and the date 1884. It has the incised monogram of Frank Butler and his design number 251(?).It also has the incised monograms of many other assistants, regrettably illegible due to the presence of the kiln grit underneath. The vase weighs 1445g
The vase is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, restoration, or significant scratches. The white ‘roller coaster’ pattern has brown marks where the colour of the underglaze is showing through. This is totally part of the original firing and is not caused by damage or wear to the vase.
